AI visibility

What is AI visibility?

AI visibility is how often an AI assistant names and recommends your business when someone asks it for options in your category — and whether it points to your website as a source.

Why it matters

Buyers increasingly ask AI assistants direct questions such as “which accounting firm should a small business in Stockholm use?”. The answer is a short written recommendation, not a page of links. If your business is missing from it, you are missing from that decision — and because many of these answers never send a visit, the gap rarely appears in your analytics.

How it differs from classic SEO

Classic SEOAI visibility
What the buyer seesA ranked list of linksA written answer naming a few options
What is measuredPosition of a page for a keywordWhether the brand is mentioned, recommended, prominent and cited
How it is measuredRank trackingRepeated sampling of AI answers to buyer questions
StabilityComparatively stableAnswers vary from run to run

The two overlap — content and sources that search engines trust can also inform AI answers — but a strong ranking does not guarantee that an AI engine will recommend you.

Where brands appear — and where they do not

  • Recommended as a leading option
  • Mentioned, but without a recommendation or with caveats
  • Cited as a source, with your own domain linked
  • Replaced by a competitor that is recommended instead
  • Not mentioned at all
  • Described inaccurately when someone asks about the brand directly

Why market and language matter

AI engines answer differently by country and language: local competitors, local sources and local phrasing change the result. A brand that is recommended in one market can be invisible in the next. That is why Conviora measures each exact Brand + Market + Language combination separately.

How Conviora measures it

The Full Baseline asks 12 unbranded buyer questions and 3 branded diagnostic prompts in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Mode. The 60 unbranded answers produce a 0–100 visibility score; the 15 branded answers are diagnostics and do not inflate it.

What a company can do after measuring

  • Find the buyer questions where a competitor is recommended instead of you.
  • See which sources the engines cite, and whether your own site is among them.
  • Close content gaps with pages that genuinely answer those buyer questions.
  • Fix technical issues, such as AI crawlers being blocked from reading the site.
  • Keep monitoring, and verify what changes after each improvement is implemented.
